In this program, Girl Scout Brownies will explore the history of chess, its origins, how old the game is, and the medieval stories behind each piece. Through storytelling, they'll then reimagine the history of the pieces, promoting equality and non-discrimination by envisioning roles where all can attain status without bias.

Girls will also learn the names, movements, and values of the pieces, as well as how to read the chessboard. Chess is a powerful way to build critical thinking and life skills. No prior chess experience or chessboard is needed, as all activities take place virtually.

At the end of this journey, Brownies will earn their Making Games Badge (purchased separately) and receive a Chess Patch with a knight charm by mail.
