Earn the Board Games for Daisies Badge and Chess Patch with STEM the Gap Academy.
Join STEM the Gap Academy for a two-hour program designed to teach girls the fundamentals of chess, including each piece's names, movements, and values.
Participants will learn how to play chess and explore real-world applications of chess strategies. Participants will draw connections between chess and everyday scenarios, showing how skills like decision-making and planning can be applied to various aspects of life. As a fun twist, they'll create a spinner to decide who plays black or white!
Parents are encouraged to download the Lichess application for future learning. STEM the Gap Academy team members will provide guidance on how to engage Girl Scouts to learn chess through this platform.
Prerequisites: No prior chess experience or chessboards are needed, as activities will be conducted using a virtual chessboard. Girls will earn a chess patch with a pawn charm and badge. The chess patch is included.
This is not a drop off event.
