Host a Cheer Station for the Breast Cancer 3-Day

Posted: Oct 24, 2013

Please join other Arizona Cactus-Pine Girl Scouts at this years Breast Cancer 3-Day Cheer Stations. We need troops, IGM's, Leaders, supporters of the Girl Scouts, and administrators to show their support by cheering on the walkers of the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Almost 1,500 walkers will take to the streets of Phoenix on the weekend of November 8-10 to walk 60 miles in an effort to bring awareness to the devastating disease of breast cancer.

THE CHEER STATION LOCATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
  • Saturday, November 9  |  7:30-9:00 AM
Safeway parking lot on the SW corner of 48th St and Elliot Rd.
Walkers will be passing this location between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM on Saturday, 11/10. They will approach from the North along 48th St. so please point signs in that direction. Parking for this cheering station will be along 48th St. Public restrooms will be in Safeway.

  • Saturday, November 9  |  10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
NW corner of Ray Rd and Ranch Circle
Walkers will be passing this location between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Saturday 11/9. They will approach from the south along Ranch Circle so please point signs in that direction. Parking for this cheering station will be across the street in the Frys parking. Public restrooms will be across the street in the Frys parking lot.

  • Sunday, November 10  |  10:00 AM - 1:45 PM
7607 E McDowell, Scottsdale AZ
Walkers will be passing this location between 10:00 and 1:45 on Sunday, 11/10. They will approach from the south along 76th St. so please point signs in that direction. Parking for this cheering station will be along 76th St. Public restrooms will be Denny’s.

If none of the Cheer Station Locations or times work for your troops, please feel free to visit www.the3day.org for Public Cheer Station Locations and see if one of those will work better.

PLEASE NOTE
The side of the street that the walkers will walk on can change due to construction, weather, debris, etc. The best way to verify that the walkers will be passing by is to make sure that they see the route arrows near the Cheering Station. The route arrows are black circles with white arrows that direct the walkers where to go. The cheering station should be on the same side of the road where the arrows are placed. In most cases there WILL NOT be restroom facilities available. The 3-day volunteer organizer will try to put our Cheer Locations near a restaurant, park facility, and/or gas station that will have access to restroom facilities.
  • Please arrive about half an hour before we expect the first walker to pass by to allow for set up time.
  • Expect about 1,500 walkers to pass by
  • You can stay until the last walker passes or leave when you need to. A Staff member called the Caboose rides a bike (or more often walks the bike) behind the last walker. Once the caboose has passed, volunteers can pack up, clean up and head out.
  • Bring bags to collect garbage.
  • Please be respectful to the location, neighbors and surrounding areas and make sure to leave the area better than we found it. (cont.)• Feel free to bring the following for the walkers; water bottles, popsicles, hard candy, spray bottles for misting the walkers, plastic bags for trash (walkers will really appreciate the option to throw away candy wrappers, water bottles, etc.), play some upbeat music. Be creative but be mindful of the fact that walkers cannot carry a lot of items.
  • You can display banners and/or posters in support of the walkers or display your troop information.

HERE ARE A FEW IMPORTANT RULES TO BE AWARE OF FOR YOUR CHEERING STATION:
  • The selling of items is not permitted.
  • Cooking, alcoholic beverages, and tents are prohibited. Canopies for shade are fine.
  • We highly encourage volunteers to carpool with each other. This will complement our 3-Day greening efforts by reducing fuel usage and the amount of space that is needed for extra parking spots. Thank you for assisting us in this effort.

If your troop does not have matching t-shirts, please wear your vests, sashes, or a Girl Scout T-shirt to represent your troop and the Girl Scouts.
