Girl Scout Cookies Available Instantly in 2014!

Posted: Jan 10, 2014

Every year, Girl Scouts across the nation (and right here in Arizona) participate in the largest girl-led business in the world: the Girl Scouts Cookie Program.  Like clockwork, the community looks forward to this once a-year-treat. In 2014, the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) is shaking things up with cookies arriving early and offering meaningful ways to support their big goals.

GSACPC has said “goodbye” to pre-orders. Beginning January 27, girls will be out at booths or on their way to your doorstep with cookies in hand! This new direct-sale model is sure to instantly please customers, and is one of several ways local Girl Scouts are working to boost sales.

On top of individual and troop goals the girls set each year, GSACPC is working toward an extra special goal of 3.3 million packages in 2014. All council proceeds from packages sold over 3 million will be used to help fund the transformation of Camp Sombrero (south Phoenix) into the Leadership Center for Girls and Women. “The idea to use cookie proceeds for Camp Sombrero came from our girl-led Annual Meeting in 2013. We want to contribute to building this new urban camp, which we are excited to utilize,” said Senior Girl Scout, Ellie Fessler.

“Girls participate in the cookie program because it’s fun AND it teaches important life skills needed to become a responsible woman, such as goal setting, people skills, money management and how to give back to the community,” said Tamara Woodbury, CEO of GSACPC. “Our Arizona Girl Scouts are clearly taking the cookie program and their goals seriously, and we are proud to serve such inspirational young women.”

Also new this year, GSACPC is partnering with more than a dozen Arizona restaurants for it’s first-ever “Girl Scout Cookie Dessert Challenge.” Chefs from some of the state’s most popular restaurants will use their culinary prowess to re-imagine one of the six beloved varieties of Girl Scout cookies into a custom dessert menu item. Each restaurant has agreed to feature its dessert on its menu from February 1 to February 28, to inspire the community with a new take on the classic cookies and perhaps buy an extra box or two. The participating restaurants and desserts can be found at girlscoutsaz.org/cookie-fun.

GSACPC is continuing to offer the Gift of Caring Program so you can buy that extra box of cookies to help local Girl Scouts reach their goal, and give back to the community at the same time. Gift of Caring designates cookies for distribution to our partners who serve those in need: St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, St. Vincent de Paul and USO Arizona.   Some troops have designated other nonprofit organizations in their neighborhoods to receive donated boxes of cookies as well.

GSACPC Girl Scouts are selling six varieties of cookies, Thin Mints, Samoas®, Tagalongs®, Trefoils™, Do-si-dos®, and Savannah Smiles® for $4 per box. All proceeds generated from the Cookie Program stay in our local Girl Scout council to support Girl Scouting in Arizona.  Support your local Girl Scouts by stocking up on the delicious offerings today!
