Troop 1252 Gets a Hands-on History Lesson to Celebrate Arizona’s Birthday!

Posted: Mar 06, 2012

Daisy Troop 1252 sure felt lucky to have the rare opportunity to get to spend the 100th Birthday of Arizona in a classroom set back to 1912! There could not have been a better setting for these 1st Graders to learn about the differences between now and then.  Even better, they were featured in “The Peoria Historian” for their involvement that day!

Girl Scouts Celebrate 100 years of Scouting and International Friendships

Posted: Mar 01, 2012

On Saturday, February 25, Girl Scouts experienced activities, food from around the world

Every year at the Girl Scouts’ World Thinking Day, Scouts celebrate that they are part of a global community, one of the nearly 150 countries with Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. Girl Scout troops host booths representing various countries, and share food, crafts, activities and the culture of the country with other Girl Scouts and community members to enjoy.

At this year’s event on Saturday, February 25 at Margaret T. Hance Park in Phoenix, there was no shortage of fun: With food, dancing, music, homemade jewelry and games from countries stretching around the globe—the girls were eager to share what they had learned.

Troop 390’s “green” efforts are making a big difference!

Posted: Feb 23, 2012

By Leigh Farr

For two years, Girl Scouts from Troop 390 at Rover Elementary School have worked on a service project to stamp out Styrofoam lunch trays in their school district. Having presented their research and recommendations to school administrators, district officials and even the Mayor of Tempe, the girls in Troop 390 are excited to learn that the Tempe Elementary School District has selected Rover to test a new environmentally friendly lunch tray. The trays, which now are being used by Rover students, are made in the United States from 100% sustainable and renewable resources.

If the trays are a success, they could be used district-wide as early as next year!

Amazing work, girls! Your advocacy skills and determination are inspiring.

The Mother of the Modern Day Civil Rights Movement

This month, we are celebrating Black History Month at the Girl Scouts, and are reminded of the many influential women who have made a difference in our community, and who have blazed a trail for equality and human rights across our country.  It is these women who we look to for inspiration as we bridge into the next 100 years of Girl Scouting.

Rosa Parks is one such woman.
