Milk & Cookies Event

Did you know that in Arizona about 1 in every 4 children are faced with the threat of hunger? Every year our Girl Scouts sell thousands of Girl Scout Cookies though the Cookies for the Community program to help ensure that all children have access to food. For 16 years, Shamrock Farms has backed our commitment by donating 10,000 servings of milk.  This year GSACPC and Shamrock Farms have partnered again to support the United Food Bank and St. Vincent de Paul.

Please join one of our celebrations to increase awareness about our Cookie for the Community program. Don’t delay, registration is required, and space is limited. Free with donation of three non-perishable items you bring with you to the event. When registering a refundable payment is required to secure your spot.

Join our farmers for a tour of our urban farm, hydroponics house and composting site.  Prepare to roll up your sleeves and get those hands dirty in the farm with an educational activity. After the tour, learn some of the best healthy eating tips from our staff nutritionist.  We will conclude the morning with a tour of our Food Reclamation Warehouse and show you ways your tour can support our healthy eating efforts in the community.

The urban farm portion of the tour is outside, and while the weather is great for plants this time of year it can be a bit warm for our persons. So please bring water, wear or carry sun protection, and wear comfortable shoes.

St. Vincent de Pauls Urban Farm Highlights:

  • Nearly one full acre of farmland is producing fresh food for their kitchens and food boxes.
  • Hundreds of pounds of fresh produce is harvested every week.
  • Notable features: An exceptional aquaponics system that will amaze you and a robust composting system that turns kitchen scraps into soil.

All this and no chemical fertilizers or pesticides!
