Did you know? About one-third of the human diet is derived from insect-pollinated plants, and honey bees are responsible for 80 percent of this pollination. After learning this, two Go-Getters from Ambassador Troop 2143 decided to raise awareness about the importance of bees and their role in our food sources.
To start their project off, Jessi and Marcella teamed up with Southwest Regional Library to host an event to educate the community about this issue. The girls contacted Derrick Shields, a local beekeeper, and Monica Pastor, an educator from University of Arizona’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, to be their guest speakers.
As part of the event, the girls did some arts and crafts with youth participants to spread their important message, “Protect Our Pollinators!”
Jessi and Marcella completed their Journey project in the process. Fantastic work, girls!
