Girl Scout Monday: Brownie sharpens world, one pencil at a time

Pencils play a vital role in children’s learning process. When Girl Scout Brownie, Emily, learned some schools do not have access to pencils, she decided to take action.

In early March, Emily made a goal to collect 1,000 pencils to donate to local schools as part of her Brownie Quest Take Action project. With much support from friends and family, a local church, City of Phoenix, City of Avondale and even Governor Doug Ducey, she quickly exceeded her goal and decided to increase the number of pencils to 2,500. As bundles and boxes of pencils were donated, Emily’s goal grew to 5,000.

By late April, Emily had collected a total of 12,200 pencils! She delivered these pencils to nine schools in the community. Each school received about 1,350 pencils.

Emily achieved her goal of putting a pencil in every student’s hand, giving them the opportunity to create, draw, learn, and let their imaginations fly. Fantastic work, Emily!
