More about Shadow Rim Ranch
Welcome to Shadow Rim Ranch!
Shadow Rim Ranch is a 40 acre camp situated at an elevation of 5,600 feet in the shadow of the Mogollon Rim in the Tonto National Forest. The ranch has open meadows surrounded by pine and some deciduous trees. There are several apple trees with edible fruit in early fall, and blackberries are found in abundance throughout the ranch during the summer months. Chase Creek flows year-round and supplies water to two ponds. Supervised canoeing is allowed in one of the ponds. The wildlife in the area includes deer, elk, coyote, fox, wild turkey, snakes, birds, and other small animals. The ranch is surrounded by federal forestry land providing easy access to forestry trails. Ranch facilities include multi-use buildings, a ramada, and 4 cabin units.

Shadow Rim Ranch Site Description
All buildings have electricity and water, except as noted. Heat is provided in buildings that are open for the winter season unless otherwise noted.


Mary Moore Lodge – open year round
  • 50 cot-size mattresses
This modern lodge accommodates 50 people for overnight use and 100 people for day use. It has one very large v-shaped room with a raftered ceiling, a fireplace, ceiling fans, 21 pneumatic tables, and two porches (one at each end). It also has a commercial kitchen and an outside fire circle. It has 2 bathrooms with a total of 4 toilets and 2 sinks. The lodge has a commercial kitchen. It must be rented with the lodge and only to those knowledgeable in the use of commercial kitchen equipment. A food handler’s permit is required. Handicap accessible.



Staff House – open year round
  • 20 overnight
This building accommodates 20 people for weekend use and 40 people for day use. It has one large room with a fireplace, 2 small bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, a covered patio, and an outside fire circle. The large kitchen has a dining area, tables and chairs, a triple sink, stove and refrigerator. The bathroom has 2 toilets, 2 showers and a sink.



Nan Pyle Infirmary – open year round
  • 10 overnight
This building accommodates 10 people for weekend use and 20 people for day use. It has 2 large rooms with a kitchen, a bathroom, a large covered porch, tables and chairs, and an outside fire circle. The kitchen has a double sink, a stove and a refrigerator. The bathroom has a toilet, a sink, and a shower. Handicap accessible.



Honda House – open year round
  • 10 overnight
This building accommodates 10 people for weekend use and 20 people for day use. It has a large room, a bathroom, a covered porch, and a small outside fire circle. The bathroom has a toilet, a shower, and a sink. It does not have any kitchen facilities.



Ponderosa – open year round
  • 20 overnight
This building accommodates 20 people for weekend use and 40 people for day use. It has 2 large rooms, 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a screened porch and an outside fire circle. The kitchen has table and benches, a sink, a stove, and refrigerator. Each bathroom has a toilet, a sink, and a shower/tub. Handicap accessible.



Hermitage – summer only
  • 4 overnight
This historic building was constructed in the 1800s and accommodates 4 people for weekend use. It has one large room, a bathroom, and a front deck. The bathroom has a toilet, a shower, and a sink. It does not have any kitchen facilities.



Heritage House – winter season: closed (day-use only)
This building is available for day use only. It is only available to Girl Scout groups working on Heritage Programs. It accommodates 20 people. This historic house has a back deck overlooking one of the ponds. It has 2 large rooms and a bathroom with 2 toilets and a sink. Special training is required to use this facility.



Cabin Units

  • Wayfarers Cabins with Program Shelter - 35 people
Each cabin unit accommodates 30 people in 6 cabins except Wayfarers Cabin, which accommodates 35 people in 7 cabins. The cabins are open for weekend use only. Each unit has a shower house, a fire circle, a pole light, water and an equipment box. One cabin in each unit has electricity. Each cabin has 5 beds with mattresses, windows with shutters, and screened door. Each shower house has toilets, showers, and sinks. Homesteaders and Mountaineers units also have Clivus Multrum toilets. The Homesteaders unit is handicap accessible.
