The Campaign for Girls in Arizona

The Campaign for Girls in Arizona is our Council's effort to achieve better outcomes for Arizona’s girls by making Girl Scouting accessible to more girls. To  leverage our available resources toward this goal, we transformed our existing 14.5-acre property in South Phoenix (formerly Camp Sombrero) into The Bob and Renee Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain.

We are 80% to our goal of raising $18 million for the Campaign for Girls. Due to the generosity of The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, all gifts received between June 1 and December 31, 2017 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $1.6 million-dollars. This will help us raise the remaining $3.2 million needed to complete the Campaign for Girls

In celebration of the International Day of the Girl on Wednesday, Oct. 11, our Council brought the community together for the Million-Dollar Day of the Girl, in a day-long effort to highlight the power of local Girl Scouting and raise $1 million for the Campaign for Girls in Arizona. GSACPC successfully raised $1 million with the generous support of The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, USAA, Becker & House, The Arizona Diamondbacks, The Arizona Cardinals, The Phoenix Suns, Betty and John O. Whiteman, The Margaret T. Morris Foundation, Deb Gullet and many other community members. Several local companies, Mother Bunch Brewing Co., Fair Trade Cafe, Practical Art, Sutra Studios, and Changing Hands Bookstores helped engage the community.

This effort is not over today, we will continue our fundraising efforts to take full advantage of the $1.6 million matching grant from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation. The Foundation will continue to match all donations received between now and December 31, 2017, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1.6 million.

Gifts may be made in cash, a single or multi-year pledge, corporate gifts, matching gifts, stocks and bequests. Your charitable gift is tax-deductible as GSACPC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Why is this Campaign Important?

“When you invest in a girl/woman, you invest in a family, a community, and ultimately the nation.”   – Kathy Cloninger, former GSUSA CEO

No one knows more about girls than Girl Scouts! We know when girls are given the opportunity to discover their strengths and talents, they can become a positive force in their families and communities. In fact, nearly 80% of Girl Scout alumnae attribute their personal and professional success to Girl Scouting.

You can make a difference. Your support of the Campaign for Girls will empower girls to realize their full potential and is an investment that gives them the opportunity to build confidence, courage, and character to make the world a better place.

A brief history of The Bob & Renee Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain

A state-of-the-art, year-round program center for girls, built by the Campaign for Girls

In March 2015 we broke ground on the Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain. The 14.5-acre piece of land was previously Camp Sombrero, a facility that served our council for nearly 70 years. Construction of the new leadership center was completed in March 2017 and is now serving girls.

Perched on the side of South Mountain, this new facility is a year-round urban program center, with camp appeal, and fully ADA accessible, with relevant programming in the areas of STEM, life skills, outdoors, and entrepreneurism.

The facility will serve our girl membership as well as the surrounding community, and provide a gathering place for girls, women, partners, community leaders. The Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain has large and small meeting and training spaces, a pool and sports field, a Girl Scout shop, three activity centers and 15 temperature-controlled cabins so girls can have year-around overnight camp experiences. This property, perched on the side of South Mountain, will become a vibrant center in the South Phoenix community.

This new Parsons Leadership Center is a place where all girls can grow in their ability, take healthy risks, develop a strong sense of self and grow into our community’s future leaders.
