Annual Council Meeting
Thank you to all who attended the 2010 Annual Meeting. There were many highlights from the Volunteer, Girl and Business sessions.
We had 29 out of 33 or 87% of the Governing Areas represented. This is a testament to effectiveness of the new system considering this represents a roughly 22% increase in the areas being represented as compared to 2009. The delegates elected 13 new board members, including 5 girl members and two troop leaders.
Dr. Lattie Coor, President Emeritus of ASU and Chairman and CEO of the Center for the Future of Arizona, shared the early results from the Girl Scout Gallup Arizona Poll and about The Arizona We Want initiative, which is working across the state to forward the Citizen's Agenda being established by the poll. There were over 300 volunteers in the main meeting room and 94 girls were in the annex to talk in circle about The Arizona Girl Scouts Want. Comments from the evaluations:
Lisa said, "This was a well thought through way of presenting the needs and wants of Girl Scouts in the State. Using the Gallop Poll results was useful to help facilitate what our wants are as a council. I especially liked the commitment post-its. It was a great way for people to feel like they "own" that idea and now can become responsible. We will see how it works out".
Joyanne said, "Wonderful speaker, it was great that the circle activity gave each person a chance to speak and to participate if they wished, it was also perfect that we were allowed to make a commitment right then, and I was proud of the Girl Scout troop that did the flag ceremony. We are on a roll-GIRL SCOUTS ROCK!!"
